Pence Calls on Speaker Pelosi to Join Republicans in Earmark Ban

No more earmarks needs to happen in both houses. Anything for a State/District needs to be in a budget bill subject to debate instead of attached ot a bill that has nothing to do with the earmark.

Pence Calls on Speaker Pelosi to Join Republicans in Earmark Ban“Speaker Pelosi promised a new direction and now is the time to live up to that promise.”

Washington, DC - U.S. Congressman Mike Pence, Chairman of the House Republican Conference, issued the following statement today urging Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to institute a ban on all earmarks:

"Washington spending is out of control and the American people have had enough. The American public has called on their elected leaders to put our fiscal house in order. Yesterday, House Republicans answered that call by imposing a unilateral ban on all earmarks. House Republicans are committed to giving the American people a fresh start on runaway spending and will continue to fight for fiscal discipline in Washington.

"The action taken yesterday by House Republicans, while an important step, cannot be the last step. I urge Speaker Pelosi to join the call for fiscal responsibility and impose an immediate ban on all earmarks. The earmark process has become emblematic of a broken Washington that puts special interests before the public interest. Speaker Pelosi promised a new direction and now is the time to live up to that promise."
