Will Gov Christie (R-NJ) feel the heat for appointing a Conservative Republican to the Senate as a place holder?

What is Christie going to do if his new appointee sides with obstructionist GOP on something that affects New Jersey?   

The fact that Christie appointed a fellow Republican who calls himself a 'conservative' Republican is something I don't like about filling Senate seats until a special election.  This is not a new opinion but I have always felt that a Governor should appoint a member of the party of the Senator who has died or left office early.  Don't think it is right for either Party to tip the balance in the Senate when the people voted in a person from a particular party.

If a Democrat did this in a Republican, I would say exactly the same thing.  They are ignoring the voters but that is nothing new for Governors in today's world.  Republicans in Congress and as Governors seem to do that a lot today.  Just ask people in States where their Governors turned down hundreds of millions of dollars to set up healthcare exchanges.  Today's Republican Governors do what ALEC/Koch Brothers and other wealthy donors tell them to do for the most part and don't care about ordinary citizens.

In this case, New Jersey is a blue state with a GOP Governor who appoints his former aide and now NJ's Attorney General to the position.  That gives Christie a chance to get another cronie in the AG's office prior to the election this fall.

Attorney General of New Jersey Named as Interim Senator

Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey on Thursday appointed Jeffrey S. Chiesa, the state’s attorney general, to fill the Senate seat left vacant by the death of Frank R. Lautenberg.
The announcement comes as Democrats and Republicans across the state scramble to line up support, raise money and secure enough signatures ahead of the deadline on Monday to compete in the August primary. 

Mr. Chiesa, a Republican, does not plan to seek the seat himself, Mr. Christie said, opening up the field for others in the party. 

The governor, who earlier this week said a special election would be held in October to fill the seat, made his announcement at an afternoon news conference in Trenton. 

“It was unexpected for sure,” Mr. Chiesa said. He declined to detail his views on specific policy issues, including immigration, saying only that he wanted to be sure the nation’s borders were secure. He described himself as a “conservative Republican.” 

“I need to learn about the issues before I can make any meaningful judgments,” he said.

Will Democrats get organized in New Jersey and pay Christie back for shoving it in their faces by appointing a GOP Conservative to fill the term of Sen Lautenberg (D-NJ) who just died?  Special election for Senate is in October so not to conflict with Christie's reelection in November.  Maybe it is time for Democrats to realize in New Jersey that they need to start turning out big numbers in these elections and not sit on their hands for whatever reason.

Christie IMHO is counting on Democrats turning out in big numbers for the special election for Senate and not turning out to vote in the Governor's race.  I think he has made the wrong call because he has infuriated the Democrats in New Jersey with this choice of his former aide and now AG to the Senate.  This could be the straw that broke the camel's back on Christie as Governor of New Jersey.

Senator Robert Byrd (D-WVA) Died June 28, 2010

Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), the longest-serving member of Congress in American history, died Monday at the age of 92. Byrd was the president pro tempore of the Senate and third in line to the presidency.

Once a staunch segregationist and a member of the Ku Klux Klan, Byrd endorsed Barack Obama for president in 2008 and praised his fellow Democrat as a "good Christian."

In addition to serving the most years in Congress -- 57 -- Byrd also cast the most votes of any U.S. senator -- more than 18,500. He also held the records for being elected to the most full terms in Senate history, with nine; of being the longest-serving member on any Senate committee; and of holding the most Senate leadership positions, including Senate majority leader (twice) and Senate minority leader.

Bennet is ready to turn our health care system over to the federal government by pledging support for the so-called "public option" health plan. And Bennet is ready to hike energy prices and deal our staggering economy a deadly blow. He "wants to be for" the cap and trade disaster looming in Congress.

Well, Colorado is not going to settle for a rubber stamp Senator. The call to action to reclaim our U.S. Senate seat has been heard and people at home are responding with passion and enthusiasm.

Thousands of Coloradans have shared their concerns with my wife Perry and I as we have traveled through all 64 counties building the grassroots leadership team for my campaign. From downtown Greeley to main streets across the state, we have been overwhelmed by the willingness of so many to donate their precious time, energy and money to help our campaign get off to such a strong start.

Election 2010: Arkansas Senate -- Boozman (R) 61%, Lincoln (D) 32%

Unions and DC Democrats tried to knock off Blanche Lincoln in the Democrat primary, but were unsuccessful as she is the Democrat nominee. Unions spent millions and millions to defeat Lincoln to no avail. With these poll numbers, looks like Lincoln will be sent back to Arkansas after the November 2nd election. It is not like she didn't have warning from her constituents not to vote for the Obama agenda. She had plenty of warning but chose to ignore her constituents.

This Senate race looks like it is more than leaning Republican right now. With a lot of hard work and help from volunteers, Republican Boozman will be putting this Arkansas Democrat Senate seat in the Republican column come November.

Republican John Boozman now holds a near two-to-one lead over Democratic incumbent Blanche Lincoln in Arkansas’ U.S. Senate race, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state.

Boozman earns 61% of the vote, while Lincoln, coming off her Democratic Primary runoff win last week, picks up 32% support. Four percent (4%) favor some other candidate in the race, while just three percent (3%) remain undecided.

Lincoln, who is seeking a third term in the Senate, was reelected in 2004 with 56% of the vote. But she has been struggling politically at home since late last year following her procedural vote that kept the national health care bill alive in the Senate.

Voters in Arkansas have consistently opposed the health care bill more strongly than voters in much of the rest of the country. Sixty-five percent (65%) of voters in the state now favor repeal of the health care bill, while 30% oppose repeal. This includes 57% who Strongly Favor repeal and 20% who are Strongly Opposed.

Eighty-nine percent (89%) of the much-larger group that Strongly Favors repeal support Boozman, a U.S. congressman who, like all Republicans, voted against the health care bill. Sixty-two percent (62%) of those who Strongly Oppose repeal back Lincoln.

Champion Against Earmarks -- John McCain

Today the Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) announced the 2010 Congressional Pig Book is here! With that announcement, we decided that the John McCain's radio ad concerning earmarks is as timely today as it was when released early this month:



Listen to the ad and remember how J.D. Hayworth was one of the big porkers/spenders when Republicans were in charge of the House. Then ask yourself why his own district turned him out of office in 2006? If his district wouldn't reelect him, why would the State?

We have noticed over the last week something troubling that is beginning to happen. Not only is John McCain being attacked by 'so-called' conservatives but also the same group is after Senator (Dr.) Tom Coburn now for wanting to bring civility back into politics and for conservatives to not blindly follow Fox News.

On some sites Dr. Tom is being called some of the same names we see John McCain called which is beginning to make us question what is happening. The first question that comes to mind is what do they have in common? They are two of the biggest fiscal conservatives in the Congress as both want to do away with pork and earmarks. Makes one wonder just who is behind these attacks on these two honorable men and if ending the practice of pork and earmarks is what these 'so-called' conservatives don't like?

We have to question if some of the attackers are even Republicans with some of their comments. Is JD Hayworth being backed by libertarians, John Birchers, and Democrats up to no good?

Right now Dr. Coburn doesn't have a serious opponent so the rhetoric of the malcontents against Dr. Tom means little when the vast majority are not even from Oklahoma. One of the malcontents called Dr. Tom a Representative so they didn't know he was a Senator? That points at the attacks being orchestrated as the posters are repeating the same mantra.

We believe that the people of Arizona and Oklahoma are smarter then this group of 'so-called' conservatives give us credit, and we will send both Senator McCain and Senator Coburn back to the US Senate to continue the fight against pork and earmarks.

Rasmussen: Vitter's advantage expands

Rasmussen: Vitter's advantage expands Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) holds a commanding lead over Rep. Charlie Melancon (D-La.), his 2010 challenger, according to a new poll by Rasmussen Reports.

Vitter leads Melancon by 24 points in the survey, leading 57 percent to 33 percent. That's a six-point improvement over his margin in January.

Last October, Rasmussen showed Vitter drawing less than 50 percent of the vote against Melancon – a sign of vulnerability that may have abated.

Vitter is one of two Republican incumbents that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is targeting, along with North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr.

The senator, who confessed to a prostitution scandal in 2007, has seen his favorability ratings rise, according to the poll, and two-thirds of Louisiana voters now view him favorably.

Melancon's favorability numbers are less impressive – a 45 percent plurality of Louisiana voters view him unfavorably, with just 39 percent viewing him favorably.

Dan Coats Confirms Bid for U.S. Senate

This is great news for Indiana and for America. We hated to see former Senator Coats retire and are so happy to see him get in the race for the Republican nomination to take on Democrat Senator Evan Bayh in the general election. Evan Bayh needs retired like yesterday. He quit voting for his constituents some time ago, but a challenger who could take him on has been missing until now.

Senator Coats' expertise as a former member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence is needed today more then ever after the fiasco by the Obama Administration on the Christmas Day Bomber.

The Democrats are already on the attack against former Senator Coats which shows the threat he poses to Evan Bayh.

FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Former U.S. Senator Dan Coats confirmed this morning that he will run for U.S. Senate. During a live interview with Charly Butcher on WOWO radio Coats said his campaign is "up and running, with thousands of volunteers on the ground".


The campaign is still collecting the necessary signatures to enter the Republican primary in May. The former 4th District Congressman said he never expected to be back in politics, but the recent turn the country has taken concerned him, leading him to enter the race.

Since word of a possible run by Coats surfaced, Democrats came out quickly labeling Coats as a lobbyist and questioning his recent ties to Indiana. Coats will join 4 other Republicans, including State Senator Marlin Stutzman and former congressman, John Hostettler in the Republican field seeking to unseat Bayh. There is speculation that some in the field may choose not to run now that Coats has announced his intentions. Stutzman has a news conference planned later this morning, but has not revealed what he will discuss. Dan Coats served in Congress in the 1980's and 1990's as both a Congressman and Senator. The winner of the Republican primary will need plenty of money to take on Evan Bayh, who has millions of dollars in his campaign war chest.

Coats said, “I felt a call to service throughout my life, whether it was the Army early on or representing the people of Indiana, the ambassador to Germany...these calls keep coming. As I have watched things unfold this past year in Washington under Obama, Pelosi, Reid...I am more than alarmed the way this country is going.”

Candidates must collect at least 500-signatures from registered voters in each of the state's nine congressional districts by February 16th to get on the primary ballot.
