Tulsa World: Fallin’s Lead Over Askins Stretches in Governor's Race -- Oklahoma Update of Statewide Races

This is actually pretty funny as Askins in an article in the Oklahoman on Tuesday said she was gaining on Mary and down to single digits. OOPS! Tulsa World comes out the next morning with results from Sooner Poll.com with Mary ahead byd 18 points. Democrats were also bragging about how much Askins raised but she gave herself $500,000 this quarter so how is that beating Mary's donations? Former OU Coach Barry Switzer is out with an ad for Askins. His enthusiasm for Askins doesn't show in his ads like it does when he really likes a candidate. His ad is not going to work this time.

Switzer is all over the place in this election with choosing Republican Scott Pruitt for Attorney General and even hosting a fundraiser in his home for Scott.

Right now the new polling numbers just out show Republicans Mary Fallin (Governor), Todd Lamb (Lt Governor), Scott Pruit (Attorney General), Mark Costello (Labor Commissioner), Ken Miller (Treasurer), Gary Jones (Auditor) and Janet Barresi (School Superintendent) all with leads from 6-18 points. In the race for Insurance Commissioner John Doak is losing to Kim Holland by two points well within the margin of error.



Democrats who love to tout the 'party of the poor' mantra are anything but that here in Oklahoma. In the Auditor's race, Burrage the Democrat is pretty much self funding his race giving his race $480,000 which gave him a 10-1 edge over Gary Jones. Burrage has run one of the nastiest campaigns we have ever seen in the state which says a lot. It isn't working because in the respected Sooner Poll.com just released Gary Jones is winning. Cannot think of a better person to be the State Auditor than Gary Jones. With his election, maybe we can get the Auditor's office cleaned up once and for all and patronage with Abstract Companies stopped.

Going to be a fun evening in Oklahoma on Tuesday night as the new Sooner Poll.com shows Republicans ahead in all but one statewide race and in that one for Insurance Commissioner Doak only trails Holland by two points. Here in Oklahoma we still have the straight voting where you can draw the arrow for Republican for each set of races. That could hurt Holland in the end.

We have to give the nod to the funniest campaign commercials in this state to Mark Costello for Labor Commissioner over Lloyd Fields who stole a guitar from one of the bull riders at the rodeo and ended up in the drunk tank in 2008. We will cover Costello's ad in a separate post as it is really funny.

Tulsa World: Fallin’s Lead Over Askins Stretches in Governor's Race


Republican gubernatorial nominee Mary Fallin maintains a comfortable lead over Democrat Jari Askins heading into the final week of the campaign, according to the latest Oklahoma Poll.

In a statewide survey of 753 Oklahomans with a history of voting in previous elections, 56 percent said they plan to vote for Fallin, while 38 percent said they'll vote for Askins.

Six percent were undecided.

The survey was conducted by SoonerPoll.com of Oklahoma City.

A similar poll in July separated the two candidates by just six points.

Fallin's support has grown since, while Askins' appears to have slipped slightly. …

Mary Fallin is the Conservative Running for OK Governor; Jari Askins is the Pretend Conservative in 2010

You always hear that copying someone is the highest form of flattery, but in this case it is a fraud on the part of Jari Askins. She is not conservative and never has been. An Obama supporter pretending to be conservative shows that being a liberal in a State like Oklahoma doesn't fly. She can pretend all she wants but there is only ONE Conservative in the race and that is Congresswoman Mary Fallin.




On issue after issue there is a huge divide in philosophy and how to make things work between Fallin and Askins.  The difference is stark which makes Askins pretending to be conservative even more ludicrous.  Education comes to mind as a perfect example.

Mary's new ad on her Plan for Education is 'common sense' which will work because throwing more money at education like Askins and the liberal Democrats want to keep doing does not work.  Our State needs high academic standards and schools held accountable including parental involvement in order to have good schools. It is past time that Oklahoma students were able to find good paying jobs right here in Oklahoma and not have to move out state. When Mary was Lt Governor she was about selling Oklahoma as a place for business' to relocate. As our Governor, Mary will be the best spokesman for Oklahoma we could have as she is better than any Chamber of Commerce in promoting Oklahoma as a place to live and do business.




On November 2nd, Oklahomans have a chance to elect the ONLY Conservative in the race, Mary Fallin, and send the liberal Jari Askins Home from the Capitol. Looking forward to January and ending eight long years of a Democrat Governor in this bright Red State.

Fallin travels by train through western Oklahoma

This whistle stop tour takes you back to the days of Oklahoma statehood in the early 1900's when campaigning by train was done not only in Oklahoma but around the Country. It is nice to see a part of history brought back to life in the Governor's race.  

Today the New York Times gives Mary Fallin a 95.9% chance to become the next Oklahoma Governor with 55.3% of the vote. Voters know where Mary stands on issues as she has always been a conservative while her opponent, Jari Askins, pretends to be conservative while supporting liberal Obama and his agenda. That commercial of Askins saying she was a conservative still leaves us shaking our heads.

We have yet to figure out why Askins and Democrats question Mary's stance on standing up to Obama and the Democrats in Congress. Who do they think is putting unfunded mandates on the States?  We support Fallin 100% in her taking on the Obama Administration over Obamacare, enforcement of Federal Law on illegals, against the taxes on oil and gas industry and any other unfunded mandate the liberal DC democrats are putting on the States. Did Askins ever take a position on Obamacare? Last we heard she wasn't commenting what she would do -- typical Democrat non-committal response if it goes against the wishes of the voters. 

Guess her noncommittal response tells the voter that Askins is not willing to stand up to the President or any of the Democrats in DC for the State of Oklahoma.  That one item is a clear difference between Mary Fallin and Jari Askins and one that voters need to remember on November 2nd!   Mary Fallin will stand up for Oklahoma and Askins will not say what she will do -- wishy washy it sounds like to us waiting to be told what she should do! 

Fallin travels by train through western Oklahoma

THOMAS, Okla. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin took her campaign for Oklahoma governor to the tracks Monday, touting her message of smaller government, lower taxes and pro-business polices on a whistle-stop train tour through several rural western Oklahoma cities.

In a throwback to old-school politics, the Fallin campaign leased a two-car passenger train with a caboose dubbed the “Washita Princess” adorned with American flags and red-white-and-blue banners. A professional fiddle player performed at each stop.

“We have a great appreciation for the values that Oklahoma brings, especially in rural communities,” the Republican nominee said from the back of the caboose outside the Wheeler Brothers Grain Company in Thomas. “We’re going to make government work for you, not you work for the government.”

Fallin also made stops in Clinton, Cordell and Hobart on Monday. Fallin will face Democratic Lt. Gov. Jari Askins in the November general election, with both women seeking to replace term-limited Democratic Gov. Brad Henry.

About 100 Fallin supporters and volunteers packed into the slow moving Farmrail train, which meandered across the open prairie of western Oklahoma on tracks usually reserved for freight trains carrying wheat, gypsum, fertilizer and oil drilling equipment.

“This may be the last whistle-stop train tour you see in Oklahoma,” said University of Oklahoma political science professor Keith Gaddie. “No one rides trains anymore.

“The modern whistle-stop tour is the tarmac.”

Fallin addressed supporters at the Route 66 Museum in Clinton, ending each stump speech with her tag line: “Nobody will work harder for Oklahoma, nobody.”

Fallin’s visit to small communities in western Oklahoma is an important way to let rural voters know she cares about them, said Clinton Mayor Allen Bryson.

“Western Oklahoma is often just a stop for travelers along Interstate 40,” Bryson said. “This kind of visit goes a long way.”

Western Oklahoma also has grown increasingly conservative, and Democratic state lawmakers have been losing seats there for years.

In Cordell, where Fallin delivered her speech from the Washita County Courthouse steps, her message of creating a business friendly environment with lower taxes and changes to the workers’ compensation system resonated with 68-year-old municipal worker Lydia Hall.

“We’re losing a lot of jobs out here,” Hall said. “A lot of the young people who leave our community don’t come back.”

After ending the daylong train trip in Hobart, Fallin planned to attend a fundraiser in Frederick.

According to NFIB polling data, small business owners and their employees make up 43% of registered voters in America.

NFIB will encourage its 3,111 members in Oklahoma to help turn out the influential small business voting bloc on Election Day.

Cong Mary Fallin (R-OK) on "Why the Oklahoma Governor's Race is So Important"

In her speech to Stephens County GOP, Mary Fallin explains the differences that separate her and Jari Askins. Other than the two being women and being Lt Governor, there is not much the two have in common as they are 180 degrees apart with their political philosophy. Probably the best way to sum it up is Mary is an Oklahoma Conservative with core conservative values. Jari Askins is an establishment liberal supporting Obama and his agenda although she did say she has no plans to have Obama come into Oklahoma to campaign for her. Why? Trying to fool the Oklahoma electorate into believing she is not so liberal?

Mary didn't hesitate to have former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, brother of President George W Bush, come into Oklahoma this past week. Both share the conservative principles of limited government and less taxes.

The debates should be interesting in the months ahead. The biggest question will be if Askins tries to move to the center flip flopping on her votes in the Oklahoma Legislature. That seems to be the mantra of most liberal democrats running for office -- hide their liberal agenda.

2nd Amendment in Oklahoma Governor's Race -- Cong Fallin versus Lt Gov Askins

UPDATE: 8/10/10, 6:04 p.m. As was pointed out in the comments, Jeri Askins has continued the Lt Governor Turkey Hunt tradition started by then Lt Governor Mary Fallin. We would like to point out that guns for hunting and concealed/open carry are two entirely different issues. We will check further on Monday to see if Jeri Askins has changed her stance and now supports concealed/open carry since she is running for Governor. As for the comments Askins received an "A" from the NRA, we would like to know how that was possible since she was one of the 5 most gun control supporters when she was in the House. We will be checking with the NRA on Monday to see how they can justify giving a gun control advocate an "A" rating.

As many voters around the Country understand, Oklahoma is a very pro-2nd amendment state.
As an example in 2004, we had a Democrat Congressman Carson who ran against Dr. Coburn for the Senate seat. We learned he was bringing out his old pick-up truck the gun rack in the back window as a prop to show how pro-2nd amendment he was during campaigns. Campaigning was the only time the truck appeared at the Tulsa airport and around the area. Shows how important it is to support the 2nd amendment here in Oklahoma even by Democrats.

With that in mind, imagine the shock to learn this morning that Jari Askins, the Democrat nominee for Governor, is against concealed carry and believes we need to "change our values?"

As a member of the OK House, Jari Askins was one of only 5 representatives to vote against a concealed-carry gun rights bills. According to the Oklahoman she said "she believes a change in values is needed to reduce crime, and allowing concealed weapons would not accomplish that." So basically, when it comes to gun rights, Jari was one of the 5 most anti-gun candidates in the Oklahoma House. She thinks we need to "change our values" rather than respect the Second Amendment.

Compare that to Mary Fallin who has an "A" rating from the NRA and supports both concealed and open carry laws. Mary also hosted the Lieutenant Governor’s Invitational Turkey Hunt while she was Lt Governor.

The 2nd amendment is so important to the vast majority of Oklahomans no matter their party, that we have a tough time believing when people learn the truth about Askins stance on concealed carry that she will get much support from Oklahoma voters.

This should be a red flag to every Oklahoma voter that Jari Askins stance on guns rights puts her in the same category as the California liberals who don't believe citizens have a right to bear arms. The political correctness that you can "change our values" of criminals and gang members could get members of the community killed. Concealed and open carry are a deterrent to crime -- shame Jari Askins doesn't understand that fact.

Mary Fallin Leads in First Poll in Oklahoma Gubernatorial Race

As the Fallin for Governor email advised, Askins was the underdog in the race with Drew Edmonson (we didn't agree). We thought they were fairly evenly matched which turned out to be the case. That said the numbers were shocking that Democrats didn't turn out more for their primary. Oklahoma is a total red State in National politics but Democrats still hold a sizeable lead in voter registration.

This poll bodes will for Mary Fallin who may be the most experienced candidate we have ever had run for Governor in Oklahoma. We were happy to see that Randy Brogdon endorsed her a week after the election -- now is the time for all Republicans to unite together to take back the Governor's Mansion and turn Oklahoma red for State politics.

What has Askins done for Oklahoma in four years as Lt Governor? That's a question we hear a lot of people asking. For the last four years, you can hear crickets chirping about what Askins is doing for Oklahoma.

National polling firm Rasmussen Reports recently released the first post-primary public poll on November’s gubernatorial race.

Rasmussen reported Mary leading Jari Askins 57 percent to 36 percent.

Rasmussen said “For Askins, the race is clearly an uphill battle in a conservative, Republican-leaning state where opposition to the national health care bill and to the federal challenge of Arizona's immigration law are well above findings nationally.”

Mary will not take anything for granted on this race and will continue to work hard until every vote is counted on Election Day.

Cong Mary Fallin -- Protecting Oklahoma Values

Cong Mary Fallin we believe will become one of the best Oklahoma Governors once she is elected on November 2, 2010, and takes office in January 2011. She is exactly what Oklahoma needs after eight years of Democrat Brad Henry who supported Obama. Can anyone tell us what he has done for Oklahoma except veto bills that make common sense? He was MIA when we had the fires several years ago. Took the Obama Administration over six months to grant an emergency declaration after an ice storm -- what was he doing while Obama forgot about Oklahoma? He has a reputation for sleeping in so meetings have to be later in the day which does give him less time to veto bills. Henry has just kind of occupied the seat with little to show for his eight years.

There is only one choice for Oklahoma Governor and that is Mary Fallin who was the best Lt Governor this State has ever had. Today's Lt Governor Askins seems to be MIA along with the Governor.

Rick Perry's big win in Texas!

First time I voted for Rick Perry was for Agriculture Commissioner in 1990 after we were transferred into the State of Texas -- been a supporter of Rick Perry's ever since. From the time he took office to fill out the term of Governor George W Bush until now, I think he has been one of if not the best Governor we have in the Country.

Anyone watching Governor Perry and how he handled the Galveston Hurricane will tell you he was putting up with no nonsense. If you decided to stay, you were on your own.

Some so-called conservatives love to criticize Rick and will take one or two sentences out of what he says and make a whole story which doesn't tell the actual truth. I can guarantee you that most states would love to have Rick Perry. One of the reasons I hated to leave Texas with the closure of Kelly AFB was because their State Government worked.

While Texas was flourishing, we were stuck in Oklahoma with a Democrat Governor who this last time was a big Obama supporter. Pretty strange in a state where only 34% of the voters voted for Obama. Shows how far out of touch the Governor is with the State. He is term limited this year. We are going to end the eight years of Democrat rule in the Governor's office with electing Congresswoman Mary Fallin, the former Republican Lt Governor, to be our next Governor in January 2011. Then next year Governor Perry will be betting Governor Fallin on the winner of the Red River Rivalry in Octber 2011!

Congratulations Governor Perry on your big win yesterday -- we will be rooting for you to send White back to Houston on November 2nd.

Rick Perry's big win in Texas

The conventional wisdom had it that the Republican gubernatorial primary in Texas would be a battle between challenger Kay Bailey Hutchison’s sophisticated urban base versus incumbent Rick Perry’s yahooing rural base. The election results—incomplete as I write past midnight Eastern time—tell a different story. Perry has won the Republican nomination without a runoff, with (as I write) 51% of the votes to 30% for Hutchison and 18% for Debra Medina (the candidate who got scrubbed from serious contention when she told Glenn Beck that she wasn’t sure the U.S. government wasn’t behind the September 11 attacks). That’s with 6,341 of 8,236 precincts reporting. Perry's margin is likely to increase as the final numbers come in.

The Texas secretary of state’s exemplary website shows separately the early voting results and the total results for each county. As the returns were coming in, it was apparent to me as I looked at counties with all precincts reporting that there wasn’t much difference between the early voting percentages and the total percentages when all the precincts were counted. So to get a sense of where the candidates were getting their strongest support, I added up the early voting totals for the four major metro areas as most recently defined, the 12-county Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, the 10-county Houston metro area, the 8-county San Antonion metro area (in which Medina County reported no votes cast in the Republican primary) and the 5-county Austin metro area. Subtracting from that left the 219 counties in the rest of the state. I didn’t separate out the heavily Hispanic counties along the Rio Grande Valley, because they cast relatively few (in some cases zero) votes in the Republican primary. I’ll round off the numbers to the nearest thousand in the following table, showing the number of votes and percentages for Hutchison, Medina and Perry and the total number of votes cast.

Conclusions: (1) Perry won this not in rural and small town Texas but in metro Houston. This bodes well for him in the general election, since it indicates strength in the home base of the well regarded Democratic nominee, former Houston Mayor Bill White, who was nominated by an overwhelming margin. (2) Medina, the candidate who wouldn’t disrespect the truthers, did best in the supposedly most sophisticated part of Texas, the Metroplex. Go figure. (3) Hutchison, supposedly the candidate of urban sophisticates, did best in metro San Antonio and rural Texas. She held Perry below the 50% level needed to avoid a runoff in approximately half of Texas’s 254 counties; unfortunately for her, those counties didn’t give her nearly a big enough margin to offset Perry’s advantage in metro Houston.
